I’m posting this video despite the fact that the sound is NOWHERE near as impressive as in person. But I had to give everyone a little taste of the daily dose of insanity that is the Mascletà.
During the weekdays, it seems like the Mascletà is the invitation to revellers that it’s “game on” for throwing their own cherry bombs as I don’t hear very many of those before the big show of the day, but I do afterwards.
In other news, I went to the doctor for a yearly checkup, and when I went to grab a cab at the Plaza del Ajuntamiento, I realized that when I scheduled it for today, I may have picked the day that the police start closing down all of the streets around the city. I made it on time, but had to do a bit of a speedwalk to the area outside of the barricades. At least I learned my lesson - they wanted to schedule a mammogram, and I opted to wait until after Fallas wraps up to go back! (Now that I know where the medical center is, I’m also going to take the metro next time.)
This weekend I’ve been told that giant body parts will begin littering the streets in the area of each Fallas location, but at least in the main plaza, mysterious wrapped figures have already made an appearance!
